Toyota unveils new C-HR with a more radical design

The C-HR has been one of Toyota’s great successes in recent years. Aware that its striking design has been one of the main factors in its popularity, the Japanese firm has redoubled its commitment to the second generation of the crossover, whose aesthetics are even more radical than its predecessor.

Developed in Europe, where it will also be manufactured, the Toyota C-HR adopts the company’s new aesthetic language. Its aggressive “hammerhead”-shaped headlights, very similar to those of the fifth-generation Prius, are just the tip of the iceberg of a design that will not leave anyone indifferent.

The roof, skirts, C-pillar, and rear are black, while the front and doors are painted in contrast. This striking two-tone scheme marries perfectly the angular shapes of the car, whose peaked rear doors are powerfully reminiscent of those of the Aygo X Cross.

This resource, together with the little glass surface, gives it a “coupé” look. The pilots in the form of a horizontal strip crown a rear in which the spoiler is divided into two sections should be highlighted. To improve aerodynamics, the door handles are recessed. The offer of tires for its part reaches 20 inches.

The renewed Toyota C-HR will arrive at the end of the year

The dimensions of the vehicle do not change much (4.36 meters long, 1.83 meters wide, and 1.56 meters high), being even somewhat shorter than the previous model. In the cabin, the leading role is taken by the Toyota Smart Connect infotainment system, associated with a 12.3-inch touch screen. At the equipment level, we should mention the digital key and the set of Toyota Safety Sense driving assistants.

Its engine offer will consist of four options, all of them hybrid: 140H200H200H AWD-i, and 220PH. The first three will be HEV (in addition, the third will have an all-wheel drive) and the last PHEV; that is, a plug-in hybrid. The 140H model will use a 1.8 gasoline engine capable of delivering 140 CV and the 200H will use a 2.0 with 198 CV.

As for the 220PH, it will reach 223 CV. Thanks to the use of a 13.8 kWh battery, its electric range will be 66 km, although this figure is still pending approval. A novelty of interest will be the Geofencing function, with which the car can automatically switch to electric mode when it enters a Low Emission Zone.
