The Polestar 7 will be the brand’s first Europe-made car

Polestar, Volvo Cars’ sports brand, considers itself a European firm; in fact, its headquarters are located in Gothenburg (Sweden). However, the truth is that for the moment all its cars are manufactured abroad (specifically, in China and the United States), something that does not seem to be changing in the short term.

The Polestar 2 is assembled in Luqiao, China, while the Polestar 3 will roll off the lines of Volvo’s plant in South Carolina, United States, as well as Chengdu, China. The future Polestar 4 midsize SUV will be made for its part in Hangzhou (China). The Polestar 5 sports saloon and Polestar 6 roadster will be built in Chongqing, China.

Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar, has hinted during a recent interview that it will be at least 5 years until the company starts producing vehicles in the old continent. “For us, the important thing is to come to Europe at some point. And that could be around the time we start manufacturing the Polestar 7.”

Currently, Volvo Cars have two factories on European soil (Belgium and Sweden), and the third center in Slovakia will be added in 2026. ” It’s up to Volvo to see where […] [the new models] will be built,” explained the manager, making it clear that the choice of a plant depends entirely on its parent company.

The Polestar 7 could replace the Polestar 2

There is still no information on the new Polestar 7, although it is interesting to remember that Ingenlath himself confirmed at the time that the brand does not plan to launch smaller cars than the Polestar 2. With a range made up of two medium-sized models (Polestar 2 and Polestar 4), two executives (Polestar 3 and Polestar 5), and a “halo” sports car (Polestar 6), it does not seem that the company is going to enter new niches. Therefore, the Polestar 7 could be the replacement for the current Polestar 2.

Polestar 2

“ We have no plans at the moment to launch a car smaller than the Polestar 2, and in the future, of course, we want to keep such a position in our offer. But today we don’t see ourselves expanding into a smaller car segment, much as the temptation may be to design a more compact Polestar. It is our focus.

Adding the Polestar 6 is the final touch to get a full range. [With] the two SUVs, the two fastbacks, and then the 6 roadsters, by 2026 we will have achieved a very complete portfolio in a very short time. To do much more than that would be distracting. The idea is not to explore every niche [in the market] and see what else we could do.”
