Mazda CX-60 Review, Photos & Price

A new crossover model from Mazda called CX-60 celebrated its premiere as a plug-in hybrid model on March 8th. To expand the market segment in Europe, Mazda will introduce additional models above the existing vehicles. Exterior design

Now the time has come, the Mazda CX-60 was presented. The crossover is 4.75 meters long, 1.68 meters high, and 1.89 meters wide. The wheelbase is a good 2.87 meters. The front was designed very impressively, a long nose makes the CX-60 powerful and makes it look dynamic overall. At the same time, the rear has been blunted a bit, which fits in well with the concept.

The aspect ratio of the radiator grille is adjusted, the height brings it to its best advantage. The wing now has a lighting function, making the radiator grille even more powerful. The design of the headlights is also new. The CX-60 is the first model to have vertically stacked headlights and the light signature is L-shaped.

If you look at the Mazda in profile, then the far-back cabin gives a very dynamic feeling. At first glance, the SUV looks a bit harsh, but this is broken by the elegant surface and the light strips. The rear lights are also designed in the new L-shape and together with the other design features create the feeling of a premium vehicle.

Of course, the Mazda is in the Kodo design concept, the shapes are intended to represent the car as a moving object so that it resembles a living being. The vehicle should be breathed into life, so to speak.

Mazda CX-60: interior

First, we look around the interior at the instrument panel. This has continuous lines that extend from the sides to the door panels. This visually creates even more spaciousness. The center console is an eye-catcher and divides the interior from front to back without constricting.

What is also very positive is a very high-quality interior design. These include natural wood grains and high-quality woven fabrics of the highest quality. Maple wood has been processed and it reflects the Japanese aesthetic of the macho, it is intended to represent an asymmetrical balance. This is also achieved through the different patterns, fabrics, and sewing techniques.

For the first time, the concept of Kaicho and the craftsmanship of Musubu will find their way into the interior. Kaicho means harmony, i.e. the mixture of different materials and textures. Here you will find maple wood, Nappa leather, and various Japanese textiles as well as chrome details.

Musubu is the way textiles are tied in Japan. In particular, the seams of the instrument panel will be made in this style.

The CX-60 also has something new to offer when it comes to safety. The See-Through View is the latest-generation 360-degree monitor with an expanded field of vision when driving at low speeds, Hill Descent Control helps when driving on steep slopes, and Vehicle Exit Warning warns of road users approaching from behind. This and much more helps to transport all occupants safely.

But in addition to space for the passengers, the Mazda also has plenty of cargo space to offer. 570 liters of cargo volume with the rear seats upright and even 1,148 liters with the rear seats folded down. If you then fully loaded, you even have 1,726 liters available. The CX-60 can accommodate up to 5 people, the second model, which will also come within the next few years, is a 7-seater SUV called the CX-80.

Engines

The CX-60 will be available with the following engine versions:

2.5-liter plug-in hybrid engine

Mazda uses a plug-in hybrid drive for the first time in the CX-60. Here, a 2.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine, known as the CX-5, is combined with a 100 kW electric motor. The battery has a capacity of 17.8 kWh. The petrol engine has an output of 141 kW, the electric motor delivers an additional 100 kW.

The plug-in thus delivers a total output of 327 hp with a maximum torque of 500 Nm – making the CX-60 the most powerful Mazda model that has been produced to date. The crossover accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds, and the top speed is limited to 200 km/h. The purely electric range is 60 kilometers and if the electric motor is empty, it can be fully recharged within four hours.

3.0-liter E-Skyactive X petrol engine

As a second option, the CX-60 can be chosen as a 3.0-liter straight-six petrol engine. The engine should accelerate smoothly and sound pleasant.

3.3 liter Skyactive Diesel

Diesel is also available. It will be a 3.3-liter diesel engine, enlarged from 2.2 to 3.3 liters according to the right-sizing approach and calculations for the optimal emissions to the weight of the vehicle. More displacement also increases performance, which means more agile acceleration with lower emissions at the same time.

A 48-volt mild-hybrid system will be used for each of the two in-line six-cylinder engines – this is also new at Mazda. Because this is also installed in diesel, the environmental balance is better and fuel consumption is lower.

Mazda CX-60 Prices and the start of sales

The CX-60 premiered on March 8th as the first of two announced all-new Mazda models. When exactly the market launch will be in 2022 is not yet known. We also have to wait a bit for prices.
