Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV: Hunted On Test Drive

The family of electric cars from Mercedes-Benz continues to grow, and after the EQA, EQB, EQC, EQE, and EQS, it will be the turn of the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV. A model that will be placed at the top of the E segment and that will compete against rivals such as the Tesla Model X or the BMW iX.

Even though the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV will use the same EVA platform that the EQS sits on, it will become the fifth electric SUV from Mercedes-Benz after the EQA, EQB, EQ.

Although there is still almost a year to go before its arrival on the market, Mercedes is rushing to prepare the car to arrive as usual with a quality product and guarantees. Something that has taken them to the roads of northern Europe where they put the electrical system to the test under extreme conditions.

In the photos, we can see how the body of the EQE will be somewhat more contained than its older brothers. Something that opens up more possibilities for those who need a family car, but which occupies only one parking space. Of course, we are not talking about a compact since it will be around 4.9 meters long.

Design

We can also see that the design will follow the rounded and clean lines of the rest of the range, without great sporting boasts in a heavily camouflaged design that barely reveals beyond the silhouette.

But if we can distinguish the position of the charging port, which is placed on the left front wing. For many, the worst possible position that makes taking the charging cable to the socket is sometimes very complicated, having to avoid the noise of the vehicle if the cable itself is not long enough.

There is no lack of the essential towing hook, which will allow us to tow a trailer or pull a caravan, as well as the provision of cameras and security systems for driving aids.

Technical characteristics

Although they are not yet official, it is expected that Mercedes will transfer the mechanical proposal of the EQE to this SUV. This would mean having a version with all-wheel drive, 385 kW (523 hp) of power, which will be followed by an AMG variant that will increase the figure to 484 kW (658 hp).

Its battery will be 90 useful kWh, which will allow it to approve a maximum autonomy of about 550 or 600 km WLTP.

The Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV is scheduled to be presented at the end of 2022 and will go on sale in the spring of 2023. Its production will take place in  Tuscaloosa (United States), and like its platform brothers, it will be available with rear traction (one motor) and total (two motors). Of course, there will be no lack of AMG sports versions.
