Best-selling hybrid SUV refreshed with more power and technology

It will last more or less time, but right now it is the best-selling hybrid in Europe. So it seems that there was no need to renew it, but a new 2024 Toyota Yaris Cross still arrived which, due to its changes, represents a significant improvement over its previous iteration. More than anything, because it now has a more powerful hybrid engine with greater torque delivery, and because its technology has also been improved. Which, by the way, he needed to be on par with some of his strongest rivals. And of course, its design has also been updated to give it a more modern look.

The new Toyota Yaris Cross 2024 is, simply, a restyling of the first generation of the model. At the design level, little has changed, but enough. It has a new bumper in its sports version, new emblems, and also debuts new body colors and new wheel designs. In reality, the aesthetic changes are minimal, even less than usual in a restyling, but the Japanese brand has indeed focused on its interior and also on improving its hybrid mechanics which, after all, was already the best that is available in the segment. However the South Koreans were indeed one step above in power, and the Toyota Yaris Cross 2024 precisely introduced an increase in performance.

The cabin is where the greatest number of changes are concentrated, as we said, and everything starts with better equipment available for the Toyota Yaris Cross 2024. Among other things, with the wireless connectivity system for both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as the arrival of OTA updates and a new voice command control system. But it doesn’t stop there, because it also introduces the digital key compatible with Android and iPhone mobiles, and now has a new touch screen for the multimedia system with a more advanced operating system, a more complete interface, and 10.5 inches of diagonal.

The package of driving assistance systems has also been improved with the Toyota T-Mate reaching level 2 autonomous. What the brand has not said anything about, and I would sincerely like to know in more depth, is whether the problems of poor soundproofing that have been talked about so much have been resolved. Even more so considering that now its engine is even more powerful. And if the 116 HP hybrid engine noise was already leaking from the mechanics into the cabin, I wouldn’t be surprised if, with this new version of the model, things could have gotten worse. In any case, there is a possibility – and I hope so – that the acoustic insulation has been improved.

The 2024 Toyota Yaris Cross has the same dimensions as it previously had, but the Hybrid 130 version has been introduced. This means that there is a new mechanical configuration in the range with 132 HP of maximum power and 185 Nm of torque. That is, the power has been improved by 14%, and, at the same time, this restyling of the Toyota Yaris Cross offers 30% more maximum torque. And that explains why it now accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.7 seconds or recovers from 80 to 120 km/h in 8.9 seconds.

The reality is that judging by its sales figures, the Toyota Yaris Cross did not need a renewal of any kind. Now, models like the Renault Captur offer more power, reaching 145 HP, and options like the Hyundai KONA hybrid or the KIA Niro hybrid itself also have a hybrid engine, but with 141 HP of maximum power. And in addition, all of them had more advanced technology in terms of multimedia systems. So, of course, in these specific aspects, it is true that the Yaris Cross could use an update.

The official price list has not been revealed yet, but it would not be surprising if the 2024 Toyota Yaris Cross launches at a slightly higher price. After all, the Toyota C-HR has also increased in price leaving it with a certain amount of margin. What has already been confirmed, officially, is that sales will start in December 2023 and deliveries should take a little longer to begin.
