Toyota Announces Land Cruiser Unveil Date
After 27 years of absence, Toyota will again market the Land Cruiser in Canada. We now know the date of its unveiling. Toyota is a company that has mastered the art of mystery shopping. After a huge advertising campaign on the new generation Tacoma, the Japanese group titillated motorists for several weeks on the arrival of the Lexus GX finally revealed in June. For the past few weeks, the manufacturer has been pursuing this marketing technique with a new vehicle highly anticipated on the market, the Toyota Land Cruiser. Few details have been released, but we now know the launch date.
A square front
A few weeks ago, Toyota unveiled a mystery image of the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser. In profile, it was possible to discover a large SUV that displayed a robust and straightforward look.
The new photo shows us a bit more of what the front of the Land Cruiser will look like. It will be entitled to a rectangular grille. Truth be told, every part of the front bumper seems to be made up of angular-shaped elements. The headlights, which evoke the dilapidated generations of Land Cruiser, are square, as are the air intakes placed near the distance sensors.
In the image, it is possible to see an old Land Cruiser in the background. This model would be commonly called FJ62, according to several sources, an edition particularly appreciated on the North American market before being replaced in 1996 by the Lexus LX. Looking at the front of both vehicles, there is a certain natural association between the manufacturer’s styling inspiration and the model’s origins, both of which share similarities. The manufacturer’s emblem, placed in the center of the grille, and the rectangular headlight units are just two examples of the similarities between the SUVs.
A singular identity
We know from the first mystery announcement that the Land Cruiser is based on the same fundamentals as the Lexus GX. This means that the Toyota SUV will undoubtedly have off-road skills. The TNGA-F platform also used for the Tacoma and Tundra, will surely allow the Land Cruiser to have independent front suspension and a multi-link rigid rear axle with coil springs. We bet the Land Cruiser will have a 4WD drivetrain with the ability to select a low gear, a locking rear differential, and Toyota’s Hill Cadence Control.
Although it shares several elements with the next-generation Lexus GX, the Land Cruiser appears to have a distinctive style that will set it apart from its cosmic twin. The powertrain has not yet been announced, but the 2024 Land Cruiser could be equipped with the hybrid powertrain consisting of a twin-turbo V6 engine found under the hood of the GX or the hybrid powertrain consisting of 4 turbo cylinders like that of the 2024 Toyota Tacoma.
Several components will need to be validated, but Toyota has confirmed that the Land Cruiser will launch on August 1. The vehicle will be unveiled at 9:20 p.m. Eastern Time, so we’ll keep an eye out for developments.
