Tesla will upgraded V4 Superchargers to 350 kW
Just a few months ago, Tesla began installing the first V4 Superchargers at some of its European stations. On paper, its fourth generation of ultra-fast chargers should be capable of reaching a peak power of 615 kW, since they can work at 1,000 V and 615 A; however, until now they were limited to 250 kW.
American sources indicated that starting next year, V4 Superchargers would begin to upgrade to 350 kW, something that has now been officially confirmed thanks to documents for the construction of a new station in Swindon (United Kingdom ). In addition, another novelty of great interest has also been announced.
And it is that the V4 Superchargers will include a payment screen, an element that was not available in the three previous generations. This will facilitate the charging process for those users who do not have the company’s app or who do not have coverage on their smartphone (remember that Tesla models do not have this problem, as they have a Plug&Charge system).
It is interesting to remember that the V4 Superchargers also have cables up to 3 meters long (the V2/V3 Superchargers, designed for cars with the socket located on the left rear wing, were less than 2 meters), which shows the intention from Tesla to adapt its network to users with electric cars of other brands.
The renewed Tesla Model 3 could charge at 350 kW of power
Given that this rollout pretty much coincides with the imminent arrival of the Model 3 mid-life facelift, it’s conceivable that the popular sedan will be Tesla’s first vehicle (not counting the Cybertruck pick-up, which won’t initially hit the market). European market) to be able to take advantage of the new V4 Superchargers.
Known internally as Project Highland, the refreshed Model 3 will include improvements such as by-wire steering, Matrix LED headlights, and more capable batteries (the entry version, known as Standard Range RWD or simply RWD, will go from 60 to 66 kWh thanks to the adoption of the new CATL M3P cells).
Another of the most noteworthy novelties will be the inclusion of three new cameras (one in the front bumper and two in the forward-facing front wings) to take advantage of Autopilot Hardware 4.0. They will be 5 megapixels and have an anti-glare coating, a notable improvement on the 1.2 megapixels used in Hardware 3.0.
