Volvo EX30 arrives, electric SUV with up to 480 km of range
After months of advances, Volvo today presented its new access model in style, the EX30 electric SUV. With 4.23 meters long, 1.84 meters wide, 1.56 meters high, and a wheelbase of 2.65 meters, the newcomer falls into segment B, a category in which it will have to compete against proposals like the DS 3 E-TENSE, the FIAT 600, the MINI Aceman and the Smart #1.
Despite being somewhat shorter than the XC40 Recharge (4.44 meters) and C40 Recharge (4.43 meters), Volvo promises that its youngest will offer safety levels that meet what customers expect from the brand. In addition, from 2024 a Cross Country variant will be added, which will be characterized by its greater ground clearance and by having various protective panels on its body.
From an aesthetic point of view, the EX30 drinks directly from the master lines of the EX90, betting on more compact and muscular proportions. Its optical groups maintain the characteristic corporate lighting signature “Thor’s Hammer”, while the pilots are divided into a completely vertical upper section and a C-shaped lower section.
Four interior environments will be available in the passenger compartment. With minimalism as the flag, Volvo has chosen to suppress the instrumentation behind the wheel, bringing together all the information on the 12.3-inch touch screen that presides over the dashboard. The infotainment system is based on Android Automotive OS.
The Volvo EX30 will be available in three versions
The upholstery will use recycled or recyclable materials such as denim, linen, and wool. The full-width sound bar, which can be combined with a high-end Harman Kardon system, reduces the amount of cabling and hardware. Thanks to her, Volvo has dispensed with the door speakers. In the security section, we should highlight the door opening alarm (designed with cyclists in mind) and the advanced driver alert system.
It will be available in three versions. The access model will combine a 272 hp (200 kW) and 343 Nm engine with a 49 kWh LFP (lithium-iron phosphate) battery, which will provide a range of 344 km WLTP. As for the load, it will be able to reach 11 kW in alternating current and 134 kW in direct current (10-80% in 25 minutes).
The intermediate variant will use a 64 kWh NCM (nickel, cobalt, manganese) battery, thanks to which it will reach 480 km WLTP. It will charge at 153 kW in direct current (10-80% in 25 minutes), and can optionally reach 22 kW in alternating current. The top of the range will have two engines and all-wheel drive, producing 428 hp (315 kW) and 543 Nm. It will be capable of completing 0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds, certifying a WLTP range of 460 km.
Volvo has confirmed that the EX30 will have a starting price of 36,000 euros, an extremely competitive figure in the current scenario; In addition, it will also be available through the Care by Volvo subscription program.
