Porsche Macan will launch with an innovative fast charging system
The company’s second electric model is finalizing its fine-tuning before going on the market this year. The Porsche Macan will have the latest technology in the house with high doses of dynamism.
Many raised their hands to their heads when Porsche decided to build an SUV, but thanks to them the company revived and is what it is today. The Cayenne and the Macan saved the German brand and, therefore, we must keep them the love they deserve. Its evolution has been constant over the years and no one can deny that they are two of the best sports SUVs on the market. Being the most popular models in the range, it is difficult to update them without losing control, but Porsche has taken a risk with the next generation of its smallest model. The new Porsche Macan will be a 100% electric SUV that has just revealed the first technical details.
It is not the first time that we have talked about the new generation of the Porsche Macan. Throughout the last year and a half, we have been able to see it circulate in different environments during its development stage. It should have been on the market by now, but various problems with the Volkswagen Group’s software division have caused the date to be pushed back. However, this will be the launch year, quite possibly before the first half of the year is over. After all, good things always make you wait.
The Macan will be the first model to enjoy the advanced PPE (Premium Platform Electric) platform. Designed by Porsche and Audi engineers, this structure for electric vehicles has many advantages. With an 800-volt system, it is capable of offering a charging power higher than that of the Porsche Taycan, up to 270 kW. The Germans have announced that the Macan will be able to go from 5 to 80% of the charge in just 25 minutes when the connection is made at an ultra-fast charging point.
Even if the charging station isn’t able to keep up with the car, the Macan will still be able to make the most of the electricity. You will be the first to benefit from a system that has not been used until now. If the charging outlet is limited to 400 volts, the car’s high-voltage charging ports are automatically activated before charging begins. This means that Macan’s 800-volt battery is divided into two batteries with a nominal voltage of 400 volts each that can be charged in parallel. It is a system patented by Porsche called the Integrated Power Box, which manages to reduce the space occupied by the cables, as well as improve the costs and weight of the entire assembly.
Leaving the issue of cargo aside and focusing more on performance, Porsche warns that the new electric Macan will be more dynamic than its thermal predecessor, despite the increase in weight. To do this, it has included very specific dynamic systems such as torque vectoring combined with a self-locking electric rear differential, an almost perfect weight distribution, 48:52, a steered rear axle, and a double-wishbone front axle that will maximize power delivery. and the response of the whole set. All this with a dual mechanical scheme with a motor for each axis.
The powertrain will develop an approximate power of 612 horsepower with a torque of more than 1,000 Nm. That means that the new electricity generation will far exceed the performance of its thermal predecessor. The entire system will be powered by a state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery with an approximate capacity of 100 kWh. At the moment, Porsche has not wanted to report more specific data or the expected autonomy for the small SUV in the house, although all the information indicates that it will be able to easily overcome the 500-kilometer barrier.
