Mercedes to offer $1,200 performance subscription for EVs
Mercedes-Benz has presented its new annual subscription. This time it is an increase in power and a dynamic improvement of some of its electric models.
Mercedes-Benz has already announced some subscription plans for technological elements of its electric cars, such as the rear axle steering of the Mercedes EQS, for example. However, now they have gone a step further and the daughter-in-law of the “pay for enjoyment” era even reaches the maximum power of its electric models. Do you want to enjoy maximum power and acceleration in a Mercedes EQE or EQS? You will have to go through the box.
Indeed, this has not yet been carried out, although the brand already ensures that “soon” they will begin to request a subscription for said service. Until now, if you bought a car, you did it to enjoy all its capabilities, including sportsmanship; Soon this will be a thing of the past and if you want to take full advantage of its potential you will have to subscribe to a monthly or annual subscription.
The new era of subscriptions opens up a world of economic possibilities for different car brands. BMW has already announced multiple of these services on several occasions, such as elements related to the comfort of its occupants; Toyota has also announced its intention to implement this type of business.
Some companies have defended this system for conveniences that owners will only use a few months a year, such as heated seats when it is cold, and that will mean economic savings for them since they will only pay for it when they are used. want to use. However, being forced to pay a subscription to enjoy more advanced dynamics in models, already remarkably high in price, can lead many customers to rethink their purchase.
Mercedes-Benz has announced that the Mercedes EQE 350 4Matic, Mercedes EQE SUV 350 4Matic, Mercedes EQS 450 4Matic, and Mercedes EQS SUV 450 4Matic will offer an annual payment of $1,200, or $100 per month, to unlock performance upgrades. This can already be viewed in the Mercedes-Benz online store in the United States. Will it come to Europe?
In the case of EQE models (electric sedans and SUVs), thanks to this payment, they will go from having 290 CV to 350 CV. This will increase their acceleration and they will complete the 0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds, an improvement of 0.9 seconds concerning the 6 seconds that this execution takes without a said subscription.
In the case of the Mercedes EQS, the power will increase from 355 CV to 445 CV. An increase in the power of both bodies (sedan and SUV) would lead the model to run from 0 to 100 km/h from the current 5.8 seconds to 4.9 seconds after signing the subscription. In both the EQE and the EQS, the firm ensures that the maximum torque is also increased “notably”, although they do not specify the concise figure.
According to the German company, this option improves the adjustment of the electric motors between 20 and 24 percent, depending on the model, and also improves its overall dynamics. All this will be included through the Dynamic driving mode that will be made available to the user who has unlocked this option.
At the moment, Mercedes-Benz has restricted this functionality to the US market, although it cannot be ruled out that it will end up coming to Europe at some point.
