Corvette Will Become an Independent Brand

For seventy years, the Corvette has been the pinnacle of the Chevrolet lineup. The legendary sports car, now in its eighth generation, is an undisputed American icon, as well as one of the world’s best performance-for-price supercars. However, General Motors could be engineering a divorce between Chevrolet and Corvette.

Following the example of firms such as Citroën and DS, SEAT and CUPRA, or Volvo and Polestar, the North American giant would be planning to turn Corvette into a full-fledged brand completely independent of Chevrolet, which would allow it to compete for one on one against heavyweights like Lotus. , Maserati and Porsche.

Everything indicates that Corvette will be, along with Cadillac and Hummer, one of the brands that will star in the return of General Motors to Europe in the middle of the decade. The company will bet on a direct and online sales model, focusing on 100% electric premium proposals due to their high profitability (Cadillac Lyriq and Celestiq, GMC Hummer EV…).

The first Corvette model as an independent brand will be a high-performance SUV produced in Michigan (United States). By approach, it will be very similar to the Lotus Eletre and Polestar 3, as well as the future Maserati Levante Folgore and electric Porsche Cayenne. How could it be otherwise, it will use General Motors’ Ultrium technology.

The Corvette SUV will be sold in Europe

The arrival on the market of the Corvette SUV is scheduled for 2026. In parallel, its range is also expected to have a sedan called to stand up to the Polestar 5 and Porsche Taycan, which will share a platform, mechanical parts (engines, batteries…), and even a production center with the SUV.

It is interesting to note that the Corvette sedan will be the continuation of a General Motors project to replace the Chevrolet Camaro with a sports sedan similar in approach to the current Dodge Charger, an idea that has finally been scrapped to swell the future Corvette lineup.

Of course, the heir to the Corvette C8 will also be 100% electric. While the current model will receive a hybrid version (E-Ray) in the short term, its full electrification will wait until the C9 generation. Most likely, the Corvette C9 reuses the Stingray designation. Of course, it will continue to have high-performance variants Z06 and ZR1, acronyms that we could also see in both the sedan and the SUV.
