Audi e-tron Prototype preview of the Q8 e-tron

The e-Tron SUV, the oldest electric car in the Audi range, will receive its mid-cycle restyling in the coming weeks. To show some of the innovations that this update will incorporate, Audi has presented the e-Tron Prototype, a concept car with a striking gray/red color scheme.

Both the Singleframe grille and the bumpers are new, while the headlamps, although they maintain their original shapes, receive new lighting technology. At the rear, the design of the pilots, bumpers, and diffusers is modified. The only noteworthy change on the side is the alloy wheels.

These modifications will affect both the e-Tron and the e-Tron Sportback, its “coupé” version. In addition, rumors indicate that the company will take advantage of this update to change the name of both models to better integrate them into its range. Thus, the e-Tron will be renamed the Q8 e-Tron, while the e-Tron Sportback will be renamed the Q8 Sportback e-Tron.

Although Audi has not revealed the technical specifications of the e-Tron Prototype, it is expected that most of the changes will be concentrated in the mechanical section. And it is that, even though the model will continue to be based on an adapted version of the MLB thermal platform, its electrical system will undergo profound changes to be able to compete against rivals of the latest batch such as the BMW iX or the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV.

The Audi Q8 e-Tron will hit the market in the first quarter of 2023

The current Audi e-Tron uses a 95 kWh battery, which gives it a range of 436 km WLTP (a figure that reaches 446 km WLTP in the Sportback version due to its better aerodynamics). Everything indicates that this pack will be replaced by another of 110 kWh, which will overcome the barrier of 600 km WLTP.

The motors used will be more efficient, while the charging system will be faster (its current peak power in direct current is 150 kW). However, it most likely won’t have the 800-volt electrical system used in the e-Tron GT and future Q6 e-Tron.

How could it be otherwise, your technological equipment will be updated. In terms of safety, it will debut a complete battery of state-of-the-art driving assistants. The commercial life of this model is expected to last until 2026, the year in which its replacement will be launched on the market.
