Citroen e-C4 X Electric sedan with a crossover aesthetic

The Citroen ë-C4, the electric version of the popular C4, is reaping good sales figures in the European market. This compact with a crossover look, which rivals models such as the Nissan LEAF, the Renault Megane E-TECH, or the Volkswagen ID.3, has managed to carve out a niche for itself in the C-segment thanks to its different design and its elaborate ride comfort.

Now, Citroen has decided to complete its offer with the launch of the C4 X, a sedan version derived from the well-known hatchback. As with the C4/ë-C4, it will be available with thermal motorization as well as electric. However, the French firm has confirmed that the gasoline versions will only be sold in international markets and some selected European countries

In the rest of Europe (Germany, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and the Nordic countries) the ë-C4 X will be marketed exclusively. Manufactured at the Spanish plant in Villaverde (Madrid), the marketing of this model will start at the end of 2022.

Within the manufacturer’s range, the C4 X is situated between the C4 and C5 X, taking from the latter its crossover sedan philosophy. But unlike its siblings, the new C4 X has four doors; that is, it lacks a trunk door. This peculiar configuration is practically unique in the market since the rest of the crossover sedans (Peugeot 408, Polestar 2…) have five doors… except the now-defunct Volvo S60 Cross Country, which had a short commercial life.

The ë-C4 X is 4.60 meters long and has a 510-liter boot. Citroen states that it will be a vehicle especially suitable for chauffeur-driven transport services (taxi, VTC…). It sits on the eCMP platform already used in the ë-C4 (4.36 meters), with which it shares a wheelbase (2.67 meters).

The Citroen ë-C4 X will have 359 kilometers of autonomy

As expected, up to the B-pillar, the ë-C4 X is practically identical to its hatchback brother, from which it takes its raised suspension and the plastic protections on the bumpers, wheel arches, and side skirts. However, its fastback-type sideline, the trunk lid topped by a small spoiler, and the taillights that “bite” the sides of the body are specific.

The dashboard is unchanged from the standard ë-C4. How could it be otherwise, Citroen has placed special emphasis on comfort, as evidenced by the use of Advanced Comfort seats, which have a special foam 15 mm thick, as well as suspensions with progressive hydraulic stops.

The rear seats are very well cared for, as the backrest is more reclined (27 degrees), the bench can be heated and the 198 mm legroom is a leader in its segment. In addition, passengers will have their ventilation outlets to regulate the airflow of the dual-zone climate control.

The new MyCitroën Drive Plus infotainment system, recently released for the C5 X, is associated with a 10-inch touch screen and includes OTA updates for the browser and a voice assistant capable of recognizing natural language. In addition, it can be supplemented with some connected services (MyCitroën Assist, MyCitroën Drive, MyCitroën Play Plus).

The Citroën ë-C4 X is a front-wheel-drive model equipped with an electric motor with 136 hp (100 kW) and 260 Nm of torque. This unit allows you to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 150 km/h. Its 50 gross kWh battery pack provides a range of 359 km WLTP. It can charge a maximum of 7.4 kW in a single phase (0-100% in 7.5 hours) and 100 kW in direct current (0-80% in 30 minutes); In addition, you can optionally equip a three-phase charger of 11 kW (0-100% in 5 hours).

In terms of safety, it should be noted the inclusion of a battery of state-of-the-art driving assistants, among which are the Active Safety Brake, the Collision Risk Alert and Post-Collision Safety Brake, the Highway Driver Assist (Control Adaptive Cruise with Stop & Go and active warning of involuntary lane departure), the blind spot monitoring system, the driver’s attention alert, the extended recognition of signs and speed recommendations…
