CUPRA Born VZ: Spanish compact will receive a 299 hp
Currently, the CUPRA Born range is made up of three mechanical options, the result of combining two powertrains with two battery options: 204 hp (150 kW) and 58 kWh (0-100 km/h in 7.3 seconds, 425 km WLTP), 231 hp (170 kW) and 58 kWh (0-100 km/h in 6.6 seconds, 420 km WLTP) and 231 hp (170 kW) and 77 kWh (0-100 km/h in 7 seconds, 546km WLTP).
The Spanish-German compact will receive a fourth version at the end of the year, which will mount a set of 150 CV (110 kW) and 45 kWh (0-100 km/h in 8.9 seconds, 340 km WLTP). This model will be the most affordable of the range, which currently starts at 39,930 euros (not including state aid from the MOVES III Plan).
However, the offer will not stop there, as CUPRA is already working on other variants that will add extra spice to the Born. Werner Tietz, executive vice president of Research and Development at SEAT SA, confirmed last year that the electric hatchback will receive, among other things, an all-wheel-drive version.
“A unit of this type will surely drive well, and maybe it will be something interesting for the future. During the commercial life of the vehicle, we will think about different driving technologies and performance levels. More powerful versions can be expected «. Everything indicates that this model could receive the surname VZ.
The CUPRA Born VZ will be the brother of the Volkswagen ID.3 GTX
Given that the Volkswagen ID.3, twin brother of the CUPRA Born, will receive a GTX version with 299 hp (220 kW) and all-wheel drive next year, it is expected that the VZ will also make an appearance in 2023. Within the CUPRA range, the Born VZ will occupy a place equivalent to that of the León 2.0 TSI with 300 hp (221 kW).
Its battery pack will be the 77 kWh one already used in the 231 CV Born, although the charging system may be optimized, going from 135 to 170 kW of power in direct current (5-80% in 30 minutes). The autonomy for its part will be around 500 km WLTP.
Given that CUPRA is a brand with a sporty character, it is expected that the Born VZ will receive a specific set-up that will set it apart from both from the less powerful versions and from the ID.3 GTX itself. Elements already present in the standard Born such as progressive steering or Adaptive Chassis Control (DCC) will be adjusted, while the braking system should also receive an upgrade.
