Peugeot 4008 Spy Shot plug-in hybrid crossover

For a long time, it has been known that Peugeot is working on a new crossover derived from the 308 that will serve as a link between its range of passenger cars (208, 308, 508) and SUVs (2008, 3008, 5008). The commercial name of this model is still unknown, and although names such as 308 Cross or 408 Cross are contemplated, it is most likely that it will end up being called 4008.

As can be seen in the first spy photos of the camouflaged prototypes, the new Peugeot 4008 will have a front design similar to that of the 308; however, its rear will be completely different, as it will adopt a fastback-type roof drop. The rising beltline and pronounced shoulders will give it a sporty touch, while the large-diameter wheels and raised suspension will give the SUV look so fashionable today.

While it will be based on the same platform as the 308, the EMP2 will be noticeably larger, as it is expected to share dimensions with the 4.64 meters 308 SW. Therefore, it will be somewhat longer than the next 3008 (which will be around 4.50 meters), although it will still be below the future 5008 (which will go to about 4.70 meters).

Unlike the 308 and 3008, it will not have electric versions. Instead, it will be marketed with two plug-in hybrid engines of 180 ( HYBRYD 180 e-EAT8 ) and 225 hp ( HYBRID 225 e-EAT8 ). Both will have a 1.6 PureTech engine (150 and 180 hp respectively), which will be combined with a 110 hp (81 kW) electric drive integrated into the eight-speed e-EAT8 automatic gearbox. Initially, the 4008 will only be available with front-wheel drive.

The 4008 will be one of the last Peugeot without 100% electric versions

The battery pack should have a capacity of 12.4 kWh, enough to achieve a range of more than 50 km WLTP. Most likely, at least as an option, it has an internal charger with 7.4 kW of power, which should allow it to recover 100% of its range in a couple of hours.

The new Peugeot 4008 will be presented in May, although the first deliveries will not take place until autumn. It will be manufactured at the French plant in Mulhouse, and initially, it will be one of the company’s latest European models (along with the 5008) that will not have 100% electric variants (remember that, from 2026, all new models launched by the Stellantis group in the old continent will be zero emissions).
