The Toyota bZ4X will open orders in April

In a few months, what will be Toyota’s first electric car will land in Europe. The first at least of mass production and international distribution that in a few days will open the order book for those interested in the Toyota bZ4X.

As we remember, the bZ4X is a medium SUV (segment D) 4.69 meters long that will have to face increasingly wide competition. From the Tesla Model Y, through the Ford Mustang Mach-e, Hyundai IONIQ 5, Volkswagen ID.4 …, and much more.

The bZ4X sits on the new e-TNGA modular platform, which will serve as the basis for most future Toyota and Lexus electric cars, as well as for some of the Japanese group’s “satellite” brands (this is the case of Subaru, whose Solterra is roughly a clone of bZ4X).

Configurations and autonomy

Finally, we already know the autonomy data that the bZ4X will have, which, as we remember, will come with two configurations, one with all-wheel drive and the other with two-wheel drive.

In the case of the front-wheel-drive version, it will have a 150 kW (204 hp) engine that will propel it to 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds and a top speed of 160 km/h. The all-wheel-drive model will incorporate two 80 kW motors, one on each axle, which will give it a combined power of 160 kW (217.5 hp) that will allow it to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds.

The batteries, for their part, will have a capacity of 71.4 kWh and will allow it to reach a range of about 511 km WLTP in the front-wheel-drive version, while the one with all-wheel drive will drop to 466 km WLTP.

Toyota bZ4X Price

As for prices, at the moment we do not have the figures for Spain, but we can make a comparison with those published in the first market where it will debut. Norway.

There the prices in Norway of the bZ4X will be the following depending on the version:

  • Active two-wheel drive / 511 km / 43,353 euros
  • Two-wheel drive Active Tech / 503 / 47,988 euros
  • Active Tech Bitone two-wheel drive / 444 / 50,095 euros
  • Four-wheel drive Active / 466 / 46,207 euros
  • Four-wheel drive Active Tech / 460 / 50,866
  • Active Tech Bitone four-wheel drive / 417 / 52,975 euros
  • Executive four-wheel drive / 459 / 53,607 euros
  • Executive Bitone four-wheel drive / 415 / 55,716 euros

We can compare these figures with those of the Tesla Model Y in Norway, where the American model in its cheapest Long Range Dual motor version, with 533 km of WLTP autonomy, starts at 59,590 euros at the exchange rate. As we can see, this places the more accessible Toyota with all-wheel drive 13,300 euros below the Tesla. Even in its most equipped and expensive version, it is 3,800 euros below the American model.

Toyota bZ4X interior

Closer in price is the Volkswagen ID.4, which in the Norwegian market in its Pro version, 77 kWh battery and 510 km WLTP, has a starting price of 43,666 euros. Something that gives us a clue and indicates that the prices of the Toyota will move in the figures of an ID.4 that in Spain, as we remember, is available only in the Pro version, and with a price of 46,040 euros.

It also remains to be shown that Toyota can capitalize on its name with a car that, according to the first international tests, offers nothing new or special compared to the competition. Therefore, Toyota will have to seek to make the most of its prestige in the sector to catch up with its main rivals, which have a good positioning advantage in the electric car sector.
