The access Polestar 2 improves its autonomy to 469 km
Polestar, Volvo’s sports brand, currently has only one model on its offer. Although between 2022 and 2024 the Swedish firm will launch three new models (the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 SUVs, scheduled for 2022 and 2023 respectively, and the Polestar 5 executive sedan, which will arrive in 2024), the international expansion of the brand today it depends entirely on the Polestar 2.
A rival to the BMW i4 and Tesla Model 3, the Polestar 2 sits on the CMA modular platform, shared with the Volvo XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge. Since it will remain the sole keeper of the company colors for several months to come, Polestar continues to constantly polish it with hardware and software updates to stay competitive.
Until now, the Polestar 2 was available in three variants: Standard Range Single Motor (224 hp, front-wheel drive, 64 kWh battery, 420 km WLTP autonomy), Long Range Single Motor (231 hp, front-wheel drive, 78 kWh battery, 515 km WLTP of autonomy) and Long Range Dual Motor (408 CV, all-wheel drive, 78 kWh battery, 471 km WLTP of autonomy).
This latest version recently received an OTA update that allowed it to increase its power to 476 hp (350 kW), an increase of no less than 68 hp (50 kW). The torque for its part now reaches 680 Nm (20 Nm more). All this has allowed it to improve its performance, lowering the 0 to 100 km/h to just 4.4 seconds.
The Polestar 2 has also seen its charging system improved
Now, Polestar has also decided to modify its access variant; However, this time it has not limited itself to launching a wireless update but has introduced a new 69 kWh battery pack. This has been possible thanks to an improvement in the energy density of the prismatic cells, which has made it possible to increase capacity by a not-insignificant 5 kWh. The car now homologates a range of 469 km WLTP; In addition, the charging speed has also been optimized, since the peak power in direct current is 130 kW.
Mike Whittington, Polestar Electromobility Global Sales Manager, confirmed that “the base version of the Polestar 2 is very popular with European customers. Given that popularity, we have decided to introduce an improved battery sooner than expected. ” Its starting price in the German market will be 42,925 euros.
