2022 Nissan LEAF receives a restyling in Europe

After a long commercial career of more than ten years, the Nissan LEAF is gradually approaching the end of its days: last year, the Japanese firm showed the Chill-Out Concept prototype , which advances the lines of its substitute. Based on the CMF-EV modular platform of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, this model will opt for a crossover aesthetic , moving away from the classic hatchback body of its predecessor.

However, there are still between two and three years left for the arrival of this proposal, which is why Nissan has decided to subject the LEAF to a slight restyling with the aim of keeping it current during discount time. However, the changes are very light and focus mainly on the aesthetic section.

The most notable novelty is new design 16 and 17-inch alloy wheels . The brand emblem has also been updated, following the example of the company’s latest launches, while the color palette has been enriched with two new shades (Universal Blue and Magnetic Blue, already seen on the Qashqai and Ariya).

On the technical level there is no news. Therefore, it will continue to be available with two battery packs, one with a capacity of 40 kWh and the other with a capacity of 62 kWh. With the first, the Nissan LEAF homologates a maximum autonomy of 285 km WLTP , while with the second it reaches 385 km WLTP , figures somewhat lower than those of rivals such as the Renault Megane E-TECH Electric (up to 470 km WLTP) or the Volkswagen ID.3 (up to 549 km WLTP).

The Nissan LEAF will be replaced in the middle of the decade

The 40 kWh version uses an electric motor of 150 hp (110 kW) and 320 Nm, while the 62 kWh version goes to 218 hp (160 kW) and 340 Nm. As for fast charging, both variants continue to rely on the Japanese CHAdeMO standard (the vast majority of models available on our market have a CCS Combo 2 socket , the European standard), respectively reaching 50 and 100 kW of peak power in DC.

There are also no changes in the equipment section, maintaining all the novelties introduced in its previous update (2020). Therefore, it will continue to display the NissanConnect infotainment system (compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay) associated with a 9-inch touch screen, in addition to the ProPILOT semi-autonomous driving system .
