Alfa Romeo Brennero B-SUV Spotted for the First Time

The Alfa Romeo Brennero was spotted on a test drive. It will be sold in the electric B-SUV segment and has already aroused curiosity for users.

Although FCA (FIAT-Chrysler) and PSA (Peugeot-Citroën, Opel) merged in January 2021, forming the giant Stellantis, the truth is that even before receiving the approval of the relevant authorities, both companies had been working for months on future joint developments to save time and start exploring synergies as soon as possible.

The first project of both companies was the development of three models for the Alfa Romeo, FIAT, and Jeep brands on the PSA CMP platform, on which they continue to work. These vehicles, which will be manufactured at the FCA plant in Tychy (Poland), will initially consist of a utility vehicle (FIAT Panda) and two SUVs (Alfa Romeo Brennero and “baby Jeep”).

Tychy models are expected to be marketed with both thermal (petrol, diesel) and electric powertrains, as the CMP platform has a zero-emissions variant (eCMP). This architecture can already be found in the DS 3 Crossback E-TENSE, Citroën ë-C4, Opel Corsa-e and Mokka-e, and Peugeot e-208 and e-2008.

However, the proposals from Alfa Romeo, FIAT, and Jeep will make use of the second generation of the platform, so we can expect some evolution at a technical level ( 156 hp engine instead of 136 hp, 54 kWh batteries instead of 50 kWh… However, the maximum charging power will remain at 100 kW).

Alfa Romeo Brennero to Debut in 2023

To accelerate the launch of the new common models, Stellantis will follow the same strategy as PSA after acquiring Opel in 2017: to achieve very rapid development of just two years, it was decided that the Corsa and Mokka would be direct derivatives of the 208 and DS 3 Crossback, changing only the exterior paneling and interior design.

Everything seems to indicate that the offshoots of Alfa Romeo and Jeep will derive from the DS 3 Crossback/Mokka, as the first test mules have been spotted wearing the bodywork of the Opel model. Therefore, we can expect that at the level of proportions and silhouette the four cars (Alfa Romeo, DS, Jeep, Opel) will be very similar.

Both the Brennero and the “baby Jeep” will display a quality finish similar to that of the DS 3 Crossback, as they will be two premium proposals. While the Italian will have a dynamic design and a decidedly sporty set-up, the American will drink from its off-road legacy and show a more rugged and adventurous design.
